So I have been reading more lately. This is completely odd for me, ask my mother, I was not a big reader growing up. I was the only one in my 6Th grade class that had to take reading as a 7Th grader again, everyone else passed out of it. But no worries I passed it in 7Th grade. I guess reading Music was more "my thing" than reading a book.Well now that I'm a mom I have tried to change some things. Watching less T.V. is one of them, and reading books became a better pastime. So the first book I thought I would talk about is "90 Minutes in Heaven," by Don Piper. (not the first I read just the first I decided to blog about)
This book is about a pastor who was in a terrible car crash and died for 90 minutes. While he was dead, he went to heaven. The book is about his experience in heaven, and his recovery. While recovering he insisted on being very independent. He was not used to people waiting on him.
Well a very wise retired pastor told him, "You're cheating them out of an opportunity to express their love to you." Now that's something to think about. We think that we don't want to trouble anyone by asking them to do something for us, but in reality that's their way to express their love. Even if it's something small like picking up something at the store for you.
After I had our son, by c-section, we were overwhelmed by the help we were offered. The church brought 6 meals over, every other day. Friends of ours brought over dinner, and breakfast. Several people gave us gift cards to restaurants. My parents also came into town for a week and cooked food, and left meals in the freezer for after they were gone. In the end I don't think we had to cook for the first 3 months because of it. It was wonderful.
Someone we worked with even came over and cleaned the Kitchen, Living Room and Bathrooms for us. Talk about LOVE. Baby Clothes, toys, and diapers came flowing in. In the end we have only purchased 1 outfit, and 1 toy for Peter. God totally provides.
On top of that I have been able to stay home with Peter. I am so in Love with this BOY it is unexplainable.
Well I totally got off on a tangent, and I don't want to wreck the story. I HIGHLY recommend this book, it is a must read. (I forgot to mention that I finished this book in 3 days, coming from a non-reader, that is pretty good)
The next book we are reading is "Sacred Marriage," by Gary Thomas.
