Baby # 2 - Birth Story
So "Seale Baby #2 was going to be a scheduled c-section on May 23rd (Wednesday). I (Kristen) was excited to not have to go through - you know - the whole labor thing.......ie LOTS OF PAIN. So the night before my PICC line clogged, so I was unable to hook up my TPN that night. Not a big deal, its clogged before. So about 3:30 or 4AM I started getting some pain that would come and go. I didn't think much about it, just tried to go back to sleep........but I couldn't. So about 6AM I started timing the pains, and they were about 5 minutes apart. I woke Jon up and said, "Uh I think I'm having contractions and they are getting kind of painful." We both thought that maybe if I jumped in the shower they would go away, it worked before. Jon headed off to work. After I got out of the shower I called Tara to see if she had plans, just in case I needed someone to watch Peter.
At 9:30AM I called my ob, and told them I was having some pain, and my ob told the nurse to have me go to the hospital, because "if she's in pain, she's really in pain, she has a pretty high threshold for pain. So I called Jon and told him what the ob had said. So he headed home, and Kelly ended up watching Peter until my sister could get to our house.
We arrived at the hospital around 10 AM. They hooked me up to some monitors to check my contractions. As she was hooking me up she said, "Yep, you are definitely having contractions." At that point I was thinking, "YES, YES I AM, I thought I was going to skip this with a scheduled c-section, BUMMER." THe nurse said that they would monitor me for about an our and then call the ob. In that hour I had some pretty painful contractions, and because of the c-section they wouldn't give me any kind of pain management, another BUMMER.
At 11AM the nurse told me she got a hold of the ob and she would be here in an hour to deliver our baby. WOW, that was quick. We didn't even know we were having a baby today, it was suppose to be Wednesday. So we quickly got on the phone, called parents, and my sister to arrange things with Peter and sent out a quick email to our church family to inform them of the newest member of our family who was ON THE WAY.
Up until this point we did not know if it was a Boy or Girl. And we really enjoyed not knowing. Then I looked at Jon and said, "Well I guess we better pick a middle name for a girl." We put it off, I guess because we were both thinking it was a Boy. So we spent the next 45 minutes throwing names around, until we decided on one.
Well, everything was moving CRAZY fast, so they took us to the operating room to get ready, and before we know it Dr. Jansky was there performing the c-section. They pulled the baby out and she said, "It's a GIRL!" My first response was, "REALLY." I guess I didn't know that I thought it was a Boy until that moment. HA!
So at 12:15 our Baby Girl was born. We were so excited to have a Boy and now a Girl.
